Tyrus: A film by Pamela Tom

About the Film:
Tyrus is Pamela Tom's tour-de-force documentary about Guangzhou-born, American artist, Tyrus Wong, his breathtaking scope of work across multiple artistic mediums, and his personal and professional journey navigating racial bigotry in 20th century America. Weaving together images of his work, archival footage, interviews, and commentary from the artist himself, the film captures how Wong's unique style helped shape the Disney animated film, Bambi (1942), and established a signature style of animation in early Hollywood.

About the Series:
On Screen/In Person tours independent American filmmakers to communities across the mid-Atlantic region to screen their recent work and increase accessibility and appreciation for film through direct audience engagement. The filmmakers will tour with their films to the venues for public screenings which include question and answer sessions with the audience. Each filmmaker visit will also include a community engagement activity collaboratively developed by the filmmaker and Tamarack. On Screen/In Person is a program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation made possible through the generous support of the National Endowment for the Arts. The tour begins in the fall and culminates next spring. Admission to the films is free.
