MEET MERIDETH YOUNG!

Monroe County | Textiles

“I’m a jeweler, painter and all-around art maker. That’s my motto. Back in 95’, I graduated with a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design from Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine. I’ve been a juried artist at Tamarack off and on since 1996, depending on where I was living at the time. I’m also, the proud owner of an art gallery/super fun nick knack kinda shop, in downtown Lewisburg called Young at Art. I’ve been a maker my whole. Here you will see an example of my felting projects. Whimsical by nature, most of my imagery is inspired by my surroundings and cute things. Creating things like ornaments, paintings and 3d sculptures, all made with felt are super cool to me!”

 

MEET CHRISTINE KELLER!

Upshur County | Textile & Wood

“Chrizart Creations is Christine Keller, a jewelry-maker from Buckhannon, West Virginia. Christine strives to create one-of-a-kind pieces of unique design and color, appealing to women of all ages, with an inclination toward whimsical, fun, and edgier pieces. Large, statement pieces are her signature, her jewelry is not for the faint of heart. Christine’s motto is, “If you are buying Artist made jewelry, it ought to look like an artist made it!” Having been creative from a young age, it wasn’t until 2008 that she started experimenting with the creation of Jewelry. She took up pottery, which lead to experiments with jewel-like cabochons of clay and melted glass. Having a lifelong love of jewelry, she began wire wrapping in 2009 as a medium for incorporating the cabochons into pendants. It wasn’t long before she continued her jewelry journey by learning silver smithing, copper forging and enameling. Proud to be an Appalachian artist, it is the life on top of a West Virginia mountain with her husband Warren and a wonderful dog that inspires Christine’s creative spirit. It is the beauty which surrounds her, the love of friends and family (10 grandkids) and the time to create anew which sustains her. Her work can be found in many galleries throughout the nation and at the State Art Gallery Tamarack in Beckley WV.”

 

MEET JOE PARKER!

Summers County | Painting

“My story is about being late, but not too late, in freeing a long-suppressed passion with full disregard for my “autumn-of-life” start. I have always been stopped in my tracks— literally, sometimes— by the fleeting natural beauty of Creation’s landscapes regardless of geographic location. Those unique moments of light, color and natural settings that have never happened before and will never happen again are what drives my brush to canvas. The rugged mountains, desert flora and incredible sunsets of the beautiful Southwest were the initial subjects of my work which now continues to expand well beyond our desert landscapes. Our summers are spent at our Rocky Bottom Campground on the Greenbrier River in beautiful “Almost Heaven” West Viriginia where I find endless landscape compositions that give me that wonderful green fix! I work in acrylic photorealism to honor the Creator’s perfection and then translate an exact moment into a lasting image. Landscape photorealism is a blessing and a curse requiring painfully small brush strokes and an enormous amount of time, but definitely a labor of love. I continue to hone my skills through self-directed studies by like minded professionals who are willing to not only share their art but their techniques as well. I offer a range of products from small tabletop to large wall options and, as always, my art compositions are exclusively from the pictures I take, plein air or commissioned work I have accepted. I truly hope you enjoy my artwork but more importantly the moment of unique beauty it represents.”

“Born in 1974 in Turkiye, I embarked on a journey from the world of international media, working in TV and film, to pursuing my passion for craftsmanship. After relocating to Los Angeles, I found my true calling in the world of handmade accessories. Seven years ago, I moved to Lewisburg, West Virginia, where I opened my own boutique, focusing on one-of-a-kind accessories crafted by local artisans from around the globe. As a self-taught artisan, I specialize in creating unique women’s accessories, blending techniques such as embroidery, felting, and sewing. Each piece is carefully designed and handmade by me, ensuring that no two items are ever alike. My work celebrates individuality, creativity, and the beauty of artisanal craftsmanship. Since 2025, I have also been proud to be a member of the Tanarak family, a connection that has further inspired and enriched my artistic journey. With a deep passion for supporting craftsmanship and meaningful handmade work, I continue to create pieces that tell a story whether through a hand-felted textile, an embroidered accessory, or a carefully stitched design. My goal is to offer timeless, soulful creations that inspire and delight those who appreciate artistry and authenticity.”

“A respiratory therapist by trade, I sought out polymer clay as a way of managing the anxiety of the COVID- 19 pandemic. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a small business and passion for bringing people joy through my jewelry and accessories.”

“Samantha and Stephen Fleming are the husband-and-wife artisans behind Misty Vale Leather, a handcrafted leather goods company rooted in the mountains, history, and traditions of West Virginia. Founded from a shared appreciation for craftsmanship and Appalachian heritage, Misty Vale Leather creates heirloom-quality leather goods designed to be carried, used, and treasured for generations. Each piece is individually cut, dyed, burnished, stitched, and finished by hand using premium full-grain leather selected for its durability and ability to develop character over time. Our work is inspired by the landscapes, history, wildlife, and enduring spirit of West Virginia. Product names such as the Allegheny Belt, Babcock Wallet, Blackwater Field Notes Holder, Canaan Wallet, and Vandalia Notebook pay tribute to the places that have shaped our lives and our state’s identity. Every design tells a story and invites customers to carry a small piece of Appalachia wherever life takes them. Rather than following trends or mass production, we focus on timeless design, quality craftsmanship, and intentional simplicity. We believe everyday objects should be both beautiful and practical, improving with age through years of use.”

“My process is using different types of mediums, including gouache, watercolor pencils, acrylic paints, water based paints, pastel, and pens and also markers. I enjoy finding inspiration in nature and building into that to create my own unique pieces of art. I use layering to build up my color schemes and and to add dimension to each piece.”

 

 

 

 

MEET KAYLIE WILLIAMS!

Kanawha County | Digital Art

“As a graphic designer who grew up in the Mountain State, my work has always been impacted by my surroundings. I use aspects from West Virginia to create relatable and familiar artwork through digital designs and my brand Appalachian Kind. My designs for the brand are based on the well-known tradition of quilting within the Appalachian Mountains. My process starts with what aspects of West Virginia I want to include, which are various places, foods, folklore and more. Once these were decided I search for inspiration which leads me into the beginning sketches of each design. I create the rough drafts in Adobe Fresco, then once they are completed they are imported into Adobe Illustrator to be refined, colored, and layered with digital patterns. Once the designs are finalized, they are sent to an outside company to be printed as direct to film transfers. I then use a heat press to print my designs on the various products provided.”

“I combine my traditional craftmanship with modern creativity, I begin each piece by hand, sketching my ideas before bringing them to digital line art and filling them in rich vibrant colors and whimsical details. For this piece, I reimagined local folklore by giving Moth Man a sleek contemporary look with striking features and vibrant palette. I celebrate the rich beauty of regional flora and fauna, transforming everyday concepts into something magical, with long-term goals of opening my own gallery and creating an illustrated storybook and a coloring book that celebrates the beauty of West Virginia. My work has been showcased at Multifest, on television and in community art shows. I begin each piece by hand, sketching my initial ideas before bringing them into digital line art, filling them in with rich, vibrant colors and whimsical details. My work bridges the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern creativity, whether I’m exploring the rich lore of figures like the Mothman or delving into pieces that emerge purely from my imagination. These spontaneous, abstract works allow for a pure expression of creativity, unconstrained by any specific figure, and offer a deeper look into the boundless possibilities of my artistic vision.”

 

MEET CHUCK WOELFEL!

“Chuck Woelfel is an artist and naturist. He has been painting since the 1970’s with nature as his lifelong inspiration. His landscape paintings are inspired by his spiritual connection to the natural world. His color palette and his treatment of light and shadow bring the landscape to life and creates a sense of mood and movement. “My reverence for the land I paint is expressed in an energetic, impressionistic style”. The push and pull of color and light forces the opening of his paintings and conveys their spiritual energy. Each painting and drawing is a view into Chuck’s inner self. Like pages in a book, they reveal time and space through the filter of the artist’s eye. His challenge in the creative process is to search for natural images and reveal them, fueling his personal journey. “It takes you, the viewer, to complete the painting”. He invites viewers to participate by applying their own experience to the interpretation of his work. Chuck has a BFA from Marshall University in Painting and Design. His primary studio is in Shady Spring, West Virginia while his secondary studio is in Lewisburg, West Virginia. He is current member of Beckley Art Center in Beckley, West Virginia.”

“Susanne Williams is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, ceramics, textiles, and sculptural forms made from reclaimed plastics. Her art is driven by curiosity, environmental themes, and a love of animals — especially cats and birds. Originally from Nebraska, she now lives and works in West Virginia.”

“Hey there! I’m Frederick Powers, a West Virginia-based landscape photographer passionate about capturing the beauty of the southeastern part of the state of West Virginia. I shoot with a Canon 90D and an EF 17-55mm lens, focusing on vibrant colors and unique perspectives. I keep my editing process simple, using only Lightroom to enhance the natural tones and details in my images. I’m always seeking out the perfect shot.”

 

 

 

MEET CALEB GREATHOUSE!

“My design process begins with form. I start by envisioning an overall shape or silhouette, because in speaker design, form isn’t just aesthetic, it directly influences the sonic character. Each curve, angle, and even the size of the enclosure helps define how the speaker will ultimately sound. Once I’ve established the form, I carefully select the drivers that will bring that vision to life. (I do not build the actual drivers) From there, I begin building the cabinets, combining traditional woodworking techniques with modern tools like laser cutters and CNC machines. I handle every aspect of fabrication myself – woodworking, metalwork, painting, and graphic design, ensuring each speaker is not only acoustically refined but visually unique. With the cabinet structure in place, I temporarily install the drivers and begin measurement. Using a calibrated microphone, I capture precise acoustic data from the system as it exists within the enclosure. This step is critical, because the cabinet itself plays a major role in shaping the sound. Accurate measurements can only happen once the drivers are installed in their intended environment. Using this data, I design the crossover network—the electrical system that blends the drivers into a cohesive whole. This is where I fine-tune the speaker’s voice. By shaping the frequency response, I dial in a sound signature that reflects my preference: tight, punchy bass paired with a lifted high end above 5 kHz, creating a lively, energetic listening experience. After finalizing the design, I source the necessary components and hand-build each crossover, wiring and soldering every connection myself to ensure precision and reliability. Only once the acoustic and electronic systems are complete do I return to the cabinetry for final finishing. This allows me to fully refine both performance and presentation, resulting in a speaker that is as visually striking as it is sonically engaging.”
