Mary Jane "Mollie" Hansford was born at Paint Creek in 1828 and lived in the Kanawha Frontier until her marriage in 1853. When she married Dr. John Walls, she moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, near Winchester. There the Civil War raged all around her for four long years. Her half-sister, Victoria Hansford, in the Kanawha Valley was equally surrounded by the perils of war at Coalsmouth, now St. Albans, West Virginia. They each recorded their wartime experiences as they could have only been seen through the eyes of a woman. Edited by William D. Wintz. 84 pages.
